What type of music are composed Positively Dark?
Peter Positively Dark's music can best be described as electronic. However, the Positively Dark music contains many styles including classical, jazz, techno, new age, ambient, dance and rock.
Who are the members of the band?
Peter: Positively Dark consists of a composer, I, Peter Geisheker. However, my good friend and brilliant guitarist, Dino Pacifici, plays guitar on several of my songs.
Where the name comes Positively Dark?
Peter: I was talking with a friend and she is described as "dark positive. I thought it was an interesting description that I adopted as my band name, because I think that describes the music I compose quite well. My music can sometimes be dark and melancholy, but at the same time can be very positive. Therefore, I consider my music positively dark.
What are the main influences of the band's music?
Peter: My main influence would be Vangelis. As a kid growing up I listened to music Vangelis for the soundtrack of "Chariots of Fire", about one billion times and was amazed at what could be done with synthesizers. So I bought small and cheap synthesizer (a Yamaha Dx21) and basically learned to compose music for listening to Vangelis how to organize your music and what types of sounds he used.
Other major influences are Tangerine Dream, Jean Michael Jarre, Enigma, Mike Oldfield, Deep Forest, Pink Floyd and NIN.
Are there other apart from the music influences that appear in his work or simply to the process of inspiration?
Peter: My influences tend to be my mood. It is very easy for me to hear one of my songs and know what mood I had when I wrote it. Other influences are the feelings I get from watching movies. I wrote the song "Goodnight" after watching the scene in the movie "Artificial Intelligence", when the child robot is stuck underwater watching the Blue Fairy. The scene seemed so terribly sad but beautiful at the same time. Immediately I heard the music of my song "Goodnight" and went to my home studio to write the song.
Do you think that creating music is a static process or the artist is still expanding its talent materialized even after the first sign of a musical trend or orientation?
Peter: It is constantly expanding and evolving. Music for me is very organic and always evolving. I see music as something that is channeled to the artist. Yes, this sounds like a new age nonsense, but for me it's true. When I'm in the right mindset to compose, the music can come fast and easy that I have all I can do to burn as fast as I hear. The easiest way to describe it is like having a radio station in his head. As an artist I sit at the keyboard and just play things. Then suddenly, I play something that tunes into the radio station in my head and the song is there. So I just have to work to get everything as fast as I am listening.
What are the future plans of Positively Dark?
Peter: To improve my skills in composition much more. I'm happy with the music up now, but has a long way to go before it is as good as I want it to be. Much of my music I want to improve is the percussion part. I am never happy with what sounds like my drum tracks. I also want to develop my skills as a guitarist. Every time I write music, I always hear the guitar parts in my head. In the past have always tried to collaborate with other guitarists, but I could never achieve what I was hearing in my head. Therefore, I decided it is time to learn the instrument to me so eventually it can record what I'm hearing in my head.
Peter Geisheker is the composer behind the electronic music of Positively Dark. You can get free music downloads of all of Positively Dark’s music at http://www.entropymusic.com
